Here’s to my first blog post! I just came back from a wedding in Boston this past weekend (Oct 5-7). My sister Savannah was the maid of honor at her best friend’s wedding. Two of my other sisters, Jane and Kristine, came along and we all had a ball. This was the 4th time I traveled to Boston in 2 years, and I never get tired of visiting this fine American city. I already have plans to go back in the spring to visit my sister. The wedding was held at St. Peter’s Parish in Cambridge, MA (home of Harvard University), and the reception was at the Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA. It was such a beautiful wedding and so thoughtfully planned. I send my congratulations and good wishes to the lovely couple.
When my sisters and I landed in the Boston Logan International Airport on Friday night, our original plan was to take an Uber from the airport to the hotel. We were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn Devens Common, which was about an hour away. It turned out it was going to be $225 total roundtrip (yikes!) so we decided to venture on Boston Public Transportation for the first leg and take an Uber the rest of the way there. Taking the “T” was quite an endeavor. It took over an hour on the Silver line just to get out of the airport to the last stop at South Station. Mind you, we were in rush hour and there was a concert and a Red Sox baseball game going on at the same time. The Silver and Red lines were cramped like sardines, but my sisters looked out for me and didn’t keep me out of their sight. It took us a total of 3 hours to get to Devens, and we didn’t check in the hotel until close to 10pm because we stopped for dinner right across the street. All I could think about was how spoiled I am with the efficiently accessible transportation system in Chicago. But Boston’s isn’t too hard to comprehend either once you figure it all out.
We had an overall decent stay at the Hilton Garden Inn. A free shuttle was provided for guests traveling to the wedding ceremony, the reception, and back to the hotel. I made sure to call the hotel twice ahead of time to make sure I got a step stool for the hotel room. Every time I travel, I request a step stool to use the bathroom sink and bed in the room. I use a stool as a part of my daily routine, and without it, I can’t fulfill basic tasks such as washing my hands, brushing my teeth, cooking, etc. The hotel was able to provide a stool, and it was in the room upon our arrival (click here for tips on how to request accommodations from a hotel). The only downsides from our stay were that housekeeping never came to clean our room, and we had a small infestation of ants. The ant problem didn’t completely go away even after complaining twice to the hotel about it. Nevertheless, we would not let that put a damper on our trip. It was a joy to be a part of Mary and Jack’s special day, and spending it with my sisters made the weekend more memorable.
